all things both good and bad must end but with each end follows new beginnings bad and good which themselves must end and begin again
there is no eternity except the end of all things but who's to say that isn't a new beginning in and of itself
it is universal praxis that the end is never the end and so all things must start again

Patrick Troughton - billed as Pat - helps the stricken French nobility (and flashes the audience) as Sir Andrew Ffoulkes, a staunch ally of the title character in The Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel (ITP, 1955 - 1956)
#fave spotting#patrick troughton#the adventures of the scarlet pimpernel#doctor who#classic doctor who#two#itp#itc#1955#I've had a nice rhythm going lately with pairing a 50 min series (usually The Saint these days‚ tho not for much longer...) with a shorter#25 min one to dip into when I've less time or whatever. with The Adventurer over (adieu and farewell Gene Bradley you insane#multi talented everything) i thought I'd change it up a little and go for a much earlier itc series for a different tone. so early in fact#that they weren't even ITC yet; the company was then known as the Incorporated Television Programme Company‚ ITP for short‚ but be not#fooled; this is in every way the Lew Grade led company that would come to dominate the commercial tv world in the decades to follow#The Adventures of Robin Hood is usually identified as the first ITC production but in fact it beat this series to the screen by only#3 days and the two shows were presumably in production simultaneously. Hood went on to be the making of ITC and Lew Grade and lasted#a whopping 143 episodes over 4 years; Pimpernel made it to only 18 despite being planned as a 39 part series (standard length for these#early itc shows). exactly what went wrong i dont know; Goring was heavily involved in production as well as starring and maybe that played#a part‚ or maybe the popular success of Hood meant this show was no longer affordable. idk im just speculating but from#what I've seen it's fairly fun. starting on ITV just a week after the network commenced transmission‚ it's safe to say this didn't capture#the public imagination like Hood did and it does seem to have been rather forgotten about. Pat is actually a series regular and these#pics come from a few different eps among the first few. he isn't in the very first (nor is the Pimpernel's other faithful companion#played by Anthony Newlands) and i do wonder if that was a pilot (it has Robert Shaw as the Pimpernel's right hand and to my#knowledge he doesn't reappear; he'd make up for it with a starring role in one of ITC's next series‚ The Buccaneers#but yes he's here and he's fantastic and gets to be dashing and heroic (tho never moreso than Goring of course). he's also the one of the#three heroes who best suits the powdered hair look (Newlands looks quite unfortunate). and of course i know what im doing with that#last shirtless pic.. you're welcome Pat girlies (gender neutral)#maybe I'll make another post after I've seen a few more eps but i wasn't going to commit to a Pat post for every episode im afraid

"FAST" EDDIE CLARKE ON WHY THE RISE OF THE NWOBHM WAS INEVITABLE -- IN HIS OWN WORDS:
"I went to see LED ZEPPELIN at Earl's Court in 1975. Fuck me, there was a forty-five minute drum solo, and Jimmy Page was fucking about with his guitar for an hour. You’d sit there and think: "I didn’t fucking come here to see this.""
-- "FAST" EDDIE CLARKE (R.I.P.) on Zeppelin's non-rock 'n' rollin' shenanigans
OK, so he's not exactly elaborating on its rise, but he's definitely implying that hard rock music had already become bloated, pompous, and stagnant by the mid 1970s, and needed a good kick in the pants in order to revive it again. Zep's still kool, though, at least in my book they are. Not all of it, but a lot of it.

As far as I can tell it’s not the right time for when the school year starts just some advice for people who’ll be starting university (from a british perspective)
This is all stuff that I have found really helps when trying to organise everything so I can put most of my mental energy into actually studying and enjoying my degree
1: Leave a paper trail!
If it’s to do with funding/your studies and it seems important, screenshot it, or get a physical copy and keep them safe in case it’s needed.
Top things to keep would be any receipts of tuition and rent and agreements if you need to have an exceptional circumstance for either of those, important numbers/emails like maintenance, finance, and the university’s disability advisory programme, and when possible save the lecture materials to your own device.
2: Figure out who can help you and get a rapport with them!
Some worthwhile ones would be the credit control at the university as if the payments of loans and when you have to pay off stuff don’t align, for example, you can talk to them and figure out a plan, your first contact point for academic issues and Disability programme when appropriate. It will feel awkward, but you will probably just have to bite the bullet and call them.
3: Find people who can help you advocate for yourself/advocate on your behalf when you can’t!
This is a huge thing. Even if it’s people at home and friends and not staff, having people in your corner helping fight with you if it comes to that, makes it all less daunting and overwhelming. I don’t think I’d have been as good at advocating for myself over these last years if I didn’t have the backing of people who trusted me and supported me because I knew they were there as sounding boards and to be there when it got tough.
It is harder than it sounds, but that’s not the be all and end all of the advocacy support. I’m not sure how it works at other universities but we have academic tutors who are the first port of call for pretty much anything. Attend meetings with them, let them get to know you so if they need to, they can successfully advocate for you if you aren’t allowed to
4: Research benefits and aid the university/government offer and if you’re entitled to any, take it. It’s a hassle at times to sort out, believe me, I know, but it genuinely is better to have and not necessarily need it than to suddenly need it and not have it. That has always been my philosophy when it comes to stuff like this and it always has worked out.
5: Learn when to ask for help and who to ask, if you don’t already know.
That’s basically summarising points 2 and 3 just phrased better. I struggle with asking for help, but my uni experience has taught me lots about it.
and the most important one
6: Enjoy yourself!
Find your perfect balance between work, fun and learning how to be an adult so none of them consume the other.
At the end of the day, it’s your degree, so focus and get your head down, but enjoy the learning and the fun times with your friends and coming into your own.

I built my first PC!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a video where I'm assembling the motherboard and installing it in the case- plugging each component was too complicated to record though sooo I didn't include the cable management part whoopsies
I actually built it in December before my exam period so I could properly focus on studying. I have done so much research to choose the right components for the right prices. I even bought some parts second hand because it's just outright stupid to buy things that are brand new when you can get the same things for cheaper that have been barely used...

mental note: always install red LEDs in my robots’ eyes just in case they turn evil
Remember: behind every robot that turns evil is an engineer who specifically installed red LEDs into the eyes just for this occasion

Although the Corporation likes to blame Graham Chapman for the atrocious period of Inspector Spacetime,
it was more the Corporation meddling with (well, screwing over) the cast, writers and production that ultimately led to the programme’s cancellation in 1986.
